Maintenance and operational efficiencies provide San Diego, CA based secure communications system running at more than 99.9% uptime

Exeter, Rhode Island, September 27, 2011 — NWN Carousel, a leader in data center networking and converged communications, announced that it has completed the deployment of a turnkey solution for the U.S. Navy for the ongoing maintenance of its Consolidated Area Telephone System (CATS) in San Diego. To ensure success of ongoing maintenance, Carousel has 11 dedicated technical resources located on various bases located throughout San Diego.

Owned and operated by the Naval Computer and Telecommunications (NCTS) Base Communications Office (BCO), the CATS network is an integrated digital communications system that is critical to the San Diego military environment, the U.S. Fleet and other government-sponsored activities. The CATS network, which is used by military and government personnel to obtain telecommunications services, must be operational at minimum of 99.9% of the time during peacetime, exercises, natural disasters and conflicts.

Downtime means lack of secure communications, which is not acceptable for military and government operations. After challenges with a previous solutions provider, the U.S. Navy selected NWN Carousel to assume the maintenance of the system’s switch, cable and infrastructure, as well as to provide moves, adds and changes for PBX and LEC dial tone services. Since the contract began, the system has not dropped below the necessary uptime, and all projects have come in on or under budget because of Carousel’s expertise in delivering consistent quality with its unified communications and collaboration solutions.

“The CATS network is a complex digital system that provides a transparent interface to 11 sites in the San Diego community to support more than 600 government and sponsored activities,” commented Eron Heard, vice president of strategic accounts, Carousel. “Carousel’s experience and expertise in providing high quality solutions and services to federal government departments and agencies put us in a unique position to deliver not only the ongoing operational and maintenance requirements of the San Diego CATS network, but also to offer engineering and installation services for additional projects related to the system as required.”

Carousel provides government solutions based on best-of-class technology and service offerings. With a government business practice designed to take on mission-critical, large-scale telecommunications services and integration projects on regional, national and global scopes, Carousel works with several of the government’s agencies and departments, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, the FBI, the U.S. Army and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

For the U.S. Navy’s San Diego CATS network, Carousel maintained appropriate levels of service, ensured all moves, adds and changes were completed on time and on or under budget, and provided engineering and installation services that were also on time and on or under budget.

Carousel’s success in maintaining the CATS network has led to winning a contract to upgrade the battery/rectifier plants at various U.S. military bases.
